DVD PULA 1

The beginning of the fire in the Pula area dates back to 1878, when, after a major fire at Mr. Masseroti's house, the Municipal Council, headed by the Mayor, Mr. Antonio Barsan, decided to establish a fire department with 24 firefighters deployed in two companies. In Pula, besides the city's fire brigade, there were also fire brigades in private companies, especially in industry, and there were voluntary fire associations, which were not like today's societies, and those that were created in the former Yugoslavia after World War II. The Volunteer Fire Company of Pula, back in 1951, resumed its activities, which were interrupted by the war II. World War. The very thought of reviving and registering the company was sparked by a few enthusiasts led by the late Mr. Rugola Anton who was then elected president of the society and Mirko Haller and Steve Trumbitas, who were elected secretary and commander of the society. At the very beginning of its activity, most of the membership, some thirty of them, consisted of artisans and craftsmen of the city of Pula. After the registration of the society, as many citizens, children and youth as possible started joining the society. Although most of them knew almost nothing about the firefighters business at the time, they were prepared to sacrifice themselves at any time and to respond to the challenge of any natural disaster. The equipment of the company was very poor, but sufficient for the first vocational education and training of young firefighters. At that point, the company owned one pump with the necessary equipment, a crowbar and several climbing ropes. The gathering and training of firefighters was carried out in the Fire Company (today JVP Pula), in Dobrilina Street, where fire drills were most often performed, training and education of young firefighters were carried out. In the few years of its operation, the society has grown to 90 members of all ages, from children, youth and adults (male and female members). The official premises of the company were in Premanturska Street, which served as a repository and classroom, where the first professional terms and details of firefighting were taught. Every detail and every new exercise was of great benefit, as several teams were created that participated in all the activities many times. The company had a lot of problems in its work regarding accommodation, the premises used by the company in Premanturska Street were given to Mehanika. The society moved to the Ribar Brothers Home, then to the Mirna Local Community, which made it difficult to work as well as to develop the society itself. However, despite all the shortcomings, the will and enthusiasm of membership existed until the 1970s when the idea of establishing DVDs in the Local Communities was established in the city of Pula. With this idea, the DVD Pula ceases to exist and instead, the DVD Mirna and DVD Stojja are established, which continue with the fire activity in Pula.
