Central Europe is known as the cradle of European firefighting. Firefighters have a special place in the history of the Croatian nation, because at the base of their patriotism is organized opposition to fire and fire as an elemental calamity. From its beginnings 140 years ago to the present day, the Croatian fire service, with its rich tradition and activity, testifies to its permanent and unbreakable belonging to European civilization, based on the principles of humanity and reciprocity. Firefighter competitions, under the auspices and organization of the International Technical Committee for Preventive Protection and Fire Extinguishing (CTIF), began in 1961, after the adoption of the Decision on competitions for firefighters associated in CTIF, at the session of the International Technical Committee for Preventive Protection and Fire Extinguishing in Bordeaux in 1960.
