The Fire Department of the Istrian County is the competent authority for the fire department of the Istrian County, which within its scope and jurisdiction answers to the prefect of the Istrian County. It was founded on December 13, 1993. The fire brigade operates in the implementation of preventive measures to protect against fire and technological explosions, extinguishing fires and rescuing people and property endangered by fire, explosion, technical accidents, natural and technical-technological accidents, providing assistance in civilizational and natural accidents and disasters, as well as terrorist and war activities. It provides direct cooperation with the Croatian Fire Brigade, local and regional self-government units and all services of the civil protection system. The firefighting community has an assembly, a county fire chief, a president, a presidency and a command. The assembly consists of representatives of regional firefighting communities. The command is made up of the commanders of the regional firefighting communities. The presidency consists of the presidents of the regional firefighting communities. Members of the Fire Brigade are 7 regional fire brigades of Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, Umag, Buzet, Pazin and Labin, whose founders are all the cities and municipalities of the Istrian County. The members of the regional fire brigades are the public fire brigades of Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, Umag, Buzet, Pazin and Labin, a total of 7, and the voluntary fire brigades of Pula, Vodnjan, Medulin, Fažana, Peroj, Ližnjan, Svetvinčenat, Marčana, Sutivanac, Rovinjsko selo, Bale, Žminj, Kanfanar, Vrsar, Lovreč, Višnjan, Kaštelir – Labinci, Tar, Vižinada, Umag, Buje, Novigrad, Oprtalj, Pazin, Lupoglav, Tinjan, Gračišće, Buzet, Lanišće, Labin – Rabac, Raša, Sveta Nedjelja, Kršan, Pićan 34 in total.
