Iznimno zanimljiva i bogata tradicija hrvatskog vatrogastva zaslužuje brižno čuvanje i adekvatnu prezentaciju javnosti. The extremely interesting and rich tradition of Croatian firefighting deserves careful preservation and adequate presentation to the public. Members of the First Croatian Voluntary Fire Brigade in Varaždin, the cradle of Croatian firefighting, collected material related to Varaždin and Croatian firefighting almost from the beginning, and displayed it as early as 1966 in the Archive-Museum Collection within the Fire Station in Varaždin. Over the years, the number of exhibits grew, and there was a need to place this valuable material in an adequate space. As part of the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the 1st Croatian Voluntary Fire Brigade in Varaždin, on June 19, 1994, the newly constructed building of the Museum of Croatian Firefighting was opened. Around 700 objects were exhibited in the museum, mostly related to the history of firefighting in the Varaždin region. As part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the First Croatian Voluntary Fire Brigade in Varaždin, on June 13, 2014, the renovated building of the Museum of Croatian Firefighting in Varaždin was opened, with a changed permanent display. The museum was opened by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović. Today, the museum covers 400 m2 of space on the ground floor and first floor. There are about 1,200 items in the museum fund, of which about 300 items are on permanent display. The museum exhibition was prepared by the retired museum advisor Miroslav Klemm and the head of the museum collection Vedran Runjić. The museum material is presented through several main units. On the first floor, there are rooms dedicated to the First Croatian Voluntary Fire Brigade in Varaždin and the Croatian Fire Brigade, as well as the development of firefighting in Croatia from the first written traces, through the establishment of a modern firefighting organization to the present day. This part displays documents, photos, firefighting literature, helmets, firefighting flags, etc. The ground floor contains material dedicated to the technical side of firefighting. The development of firefighting technology from the second half of the 19th century to the present day is presented through hand syringes, drivers, motor pumps, personal protective equipment, fire fittings and other equipment.
