Inicijatori za formiranje društva su bili: Adam Tišljar, Gabrijel Nemec, Đuro Sović, Vinko Mlinar, Antun Ivančić, Karlo Novosel, Đuro Triplat, Antun Šalamon, Josip Orehovec, Josip Škripać, Alojz Smontara, Mato Merđetko, Ivan Triplat, Ivan Đurašin, Josip Mesarić, Josip Triplat, Franjo Triplat, Ivan Šarec, Franjo Rihtarić, Stjepan Kosec, Franjo Štabi, Stjepan Balija, Josip Šalamon, Mijo Kanižaj, Stjepan Modrić i Josip Ivančić.

I tijekom drugog svjetskog rata vatrogasci sudjeluju u gašenju požara u Velikom Bukovecu i susjednim selima. U Domovinskom ratu sudjeluje 9 članova DVD-a. Dvojica članova, Povijač Vjekoslav i Borko Ladislav sudjeluju u gašenju požara u Dalmaciji. Danas društvo broji oko 40 članova i oko 15 članova djece (6-12 godina).

The immediate reason for the establishment of a voluntary fire brigade in Veliki Bukovac was the catastrophic fire that struck our village on July 3, 1927. Before that fire, the fire service was organized in the village on the manor of Count Drašković, more precisely from 1874, with the task of protecting the manor's property, and only later protecting the material goods of the rest of the population. The existence of this service on the manor gave certain security to the rest of the population, so it was considered that there was no need to create another fire service in the village. This unpleasant event encouraged the residents of Veliki Bukovac to found a fire brigade. The initiators of the formation of the company were: Adam Tišljar, Gabrijel Nemec, Đuro Sović, Vinko Mlinar, Antun Ivančić, Karlo Novosel, Đuro Triplat, Antun Šalamon, Josip Orehovec, Josip Škripać, Alojz Smontara, Mato Merđetko, Ivan Triplat, Ivan Đurašin, Josip Mesarić, Josip Triplat, Franjo Triplat, Ivan Šarec, Franjo Rihtarić, Stjepan Kosec, Franjo Štabi, Stjepan Balija, Josip Šalamon, Mijo Kanižaj, Stjepan Modrić and Josip Ivančić. Thus, May 1, 1928 was recorded as the company's foundation day. The company's first board consisted of Adam Tišljar as president, Franjo Rihtarić as secretary and Đuro Sović as treasurer. In its beginnings, the society did not have any basic resources or equipment, so after the formation of the board, a request for help was sent to the Veliki Bukovec land community, which approved funds for the most necessary equipment for 10 members. In addition, an action was also taken to collect help from the locals for the purchase of aggregates and the necessary pipes, but even that was not enough, so the company turned to the estate and thus bought a Rosenbauer aggregate, 4 suction pipes and 60 meters of pressure pipes. With the help of Count Pavle Drašković and a bank loan, the company was fully equipped for firefighting at the end of 1928. With the efforts of all members and with the help of Count Pavle Drašković and the land association, construction of a fire station is underway on the site where the community center is still located today. Since its establishment, the members of the society have undertaken a series of preventive measures to protect the population from fire and other natural disasters. Even during the Second World War, firefighters participated in extinguishing fires in Veliki Bukovec and neighboring villages. After the war, the society was rebuilt, strengthened by the number of active members and acquired equipment and held courses for the training of firefighting personnel. In 1968, with the help of the local community of Veliki Bukovec, a new Rosenbauer automatic unit with the necessary equipment was purchased under the patronage of the Repić family. In 1978, a van Zastava 850 and a trailer for transporting people and equipment were acquired. During the commemoration of the 60th year of the company's work, the then president, Mr. Josip Bačani, established contact with Count Karlo Drašković and invited him to the celebration. Next year, eight members of DVD Veliki Bukovec are going to Austria for a return visit and the dedication of a fire engine. 9 members of DVD participate in the Homeland War. Two members, Povijaj Vjekoslav and Borko Ladislav, participate in firefighting in Dalmatia. In 1998, for the celebration of 70 years of work of the society, the family of Zdravka and Marinka Požgaj accepted the sponsorship, who donated a naval vehicle and a flag on that occasion. In 1999, firefighting cabinets with equipment were installed in the settlement, and in 2000, the construction of a firehouse with a meeting room began. In 2003, DVD received a Ford Transit fire truck through the mediation of Count Drašković from DVD Obersdorf from Austria. until 2008, work is being done on the arrangement of the warehouse and a series of preventive measures regarding the maintenance of hydrants and existing equipment, and in 2008 the company celebrates its 80th anniversary under the patronage of the Zdravka Požgaj family. preventive actions, and a lot is invested in the training of young staff. Today, the society has about 40 members and about 15 members are children (ages 6-12).
